Yes! After hours events have returned to Land O' Lakes and its high time we had another dance event...this time to celebrate the winter break from school and the end of the year, with all its holidays. A professional DJ will spin some of the best dance music and all your requests with the lights off.  The dance is free and free glow sticks, food, and drinks, including our famous Monster Spiked Punch, will be available for everyone. Friday, December 18th from 7:00-10:00pm. Bring your friends, bring your requests, and bring your desire to dance!

Help raise money for the Battle of the Bands by participating in our Charity Car Wash at LOL.  We know you want to rock, but first you have to clean!  Sign-up now to volunteer.  Saturday, December 5th, 12:30-4:30pm.

Who knew the Land O' Lakes area had so much talent?  Wow!  We had 10 acts and over 50 people in the audience for the Third Annual Teen Talent Show held on Saturday, November 14th.  Here's our winners:  Palmer won 1st place and $100 for the second year in a row for her singing, guitar playing, and original music.  Dominick won 2nd place and $50 for his Broadway song from Jekyll & Hyde.  And 3rd place and $25 went to Amanda who performed a Broadway song from Wicked.  Congratulations again and thanks to all who participated.  See you next year!

High school seniors... could you use $5000 for college?  If you are under 21, a high school senior, and plan to graduate in 2010 (yes, lots of rules), then you can apply for a scholarship prize through Random House, Inc. and their Dr. Suess "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" program.  Before you knock it, remember that just about everyone one of you read Dr. Seuss books as a kid and enjoyed them.  Now you can get something back for your childhood reading efforts.  All you need to do is submit an essay on the following topic, pulled from the scholarship web page:

The Summer Reading Club is almost over. But, don't stop now. Join us at Hugh Embry for an exclusive mystery play for teens only! If you want to guess "who dunnit," come at 6:00pm to watch the show. If you want to be one of the actors, come early. We will need (7) teens to play the parts. We will start practicing for the show around 3:30 p.m. The first (7) teens to be here will get to pick their parts, so come early to start the fun.

Want to show off your artistic talent? Come to New River Library Thursday, June 25th, at 6pm and help us decorate a real guitar. This guitar will be raffled off later this summer to raise money for next year's "Battle of the Bands". We will also be creating coffee art, decorating guitar picks, and creating a mystery sculpture. Also, refreshments will be served.

Our Summer Reading Club is heating up with our next event for Teens. Join us for Giant Mad Libs & Anime Voiceovers. Come up with your most creative words and laugh as they are placed into our giant-format Mad Libs. Afterwards, you will have the chance to use our voiceover machine to put your own dubs onto anime movies, with potentially hilarious results.

TEENS! Help us finish painting the guitar we started last week. We'll be painting a zebra design on the back. One of our teens came up with this zebra design, and there is a hidden zebra in the painting. Oh, don't forget about the altered book. We've already cut out a box, from pages of the book. You can paint and finish the box, and there will be trinkets and found art available so you can design multiple pages.

Get the chance to experience several art workshops on different subjects, from calligraphy to coffee painting, with plenty of stuff to take home. The highlight of the evening will be the decoration of an acoustic guitar donated to the library by GuitarArt.org. We get the chance to add our own designs to the guitar, which will be displayed in the library all summer, then raffled off to raise money for next year’s Battle of the Bands.
